In a letter to the Principal Secretaries of Health and Medical Education of the states, the Director-General of Health Services (DGHS) of the Ministry of Health said, it has been observed that the N-95 mask is "inappropriate use" by the public and health workers. The DGHS has recommended the use of Homemade protective cover for face and mouth on the Health Ministry website.

The government issued guidelines in April. Accordingly, people were asked to use the face/mouth cover made at home. In these instructions, He said that always use the mask whenever you get out of the house. When using a homemade mask, wash it. Use cotton cloth to make face cover at home. No matter what colour the mask is. Just make sure that the clothes have been thoroughly washed in boiling water for 5 minutes. Add salt to this water as well.
